Traveling with Kids? How to Ensure a Great (and Safe) Time is Had by All

Mobile-Screen-ShotReady to go on that long-awaited vacation with the kids? We want to help you ensure the most wonderful and memorable trip by offering you these important safety tips from AlertID, the National Crime Prevention Council and the National Center for Missing Children for keeping kids safe while you are on vacation:

  • Talk to your kids about safety before you leave.
  • Plan ahead by placing important recent demographic and photo information on AlertID’s App, to store up-to-date info and send to authorities immediately should you get separated.
  • Be aware of the safety of the area that you are visiting with AlertID’s free app. A map will show you alerts of sex offenders, crimes, and even severe weather in that area and you can use this information to make the best decisions on keeping your family safe.
  • Keep children with you at all times and strictly enforce a buddy system for older children, including designating a time and place to meet.
  • Accompany and supervise children in public facilities, including restrooms.
  • Dress kids in bright colors that are easy for you to remember and recognize in a crowd in case you get separated.
  • Have a plan in case you become separated, including a pre-designated spot for everyone to meet.
  • Teach children to look for people who can help, such as a uniformed security officer, salesperson or mother with children.
  • Remind children to remain in the area where they become separated.
  • Did you see something that was suspicious and don’t know how to report it? With AlertID’s free app, you can post photos and information to people in the area, even send to police and Homeland Security.

Keeping these tips in mind as you leave for vacation will help ensure that you’ll have the best time possible. Have a great summer and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Happy and safe travels!
